I am so excited to share this fabulous Art Deco inspired wedding on my blog because I think this is my all time favourite wedding EVER! In fact when Amy’s photographer Katherine from Nova Wedding Photography kindly sent me over a link to the gallery I had to stop myself from asking for every single image!

Amy and Ollie truly did things their way and filled their day with lots of elegant Art Deco inspired details which made this wedding so unique. The location was Hotel Endsleigh in Tavistock, Devon, which is a magical wedding venue where you can have the ceremony outside in a secluded part of the garden and as you tie knot you also have the most magnificent views over the pretty countryside behind you.

When I met Amy for a pre-wedding trial and she told me her wedding was going to be a 1920’s theme I was immediately excited about her makeover. I always love a bride who embraces a bold look and Amy certainly did this with her Gatsby glamour inspired style. Dark doe eyes, marcel waved hair and cupid bow lips are all essentials for the Art Deco bride. The Foundation needs to be pale, which is then balanced by bold brows and dramatic lips.

We started her makeover by creating the smoky seductive eyes which were a flapper girl’s trademark look. This would have traditionally been created with black eyeshadow but to soften the look I created Amy’s smoky eyes using shades of deep rich plum tones. We then perfected the skin and applied a red lipstick to add a lovely pop of brightness to her finished look.

I’m sure you’ll agree that with all this glamour, style and romance, it’s easy to see why I LOVE this wedding.

After the wedding Amy wrote to me:

Dear Eve,

I just wanted to drop you a line to say a huge thank you for all the work you did for our wedding. I was absolutely thrilled with the make-up, and I know the girls and mum were too. We felt like movie stars for a day!

In addition to the make-up itself, I wanted to say thank you for your absolute professionalism throughout the day. Your organisation and patience really helped everything go smoothly — I felt you were a real calming influence!

It was an real pleasure to have you there with us. You made me feel as special as a bride could possibly feel!

Love Amy

With thanks to my bride Amy and her photographers Katherine and Steve from Nova Wedding Photography for the photos (www.novaweddingphotography.co.uk)

Katherine and Steve from Nova Wedding Photography are really great photographers and also really lovely people to be a part of your big day – I highly recommend them x

Every now and then a wedding comes along that’s is utter perfection like this incredibly romantic garden wedding at the secluded Gidleigh Park hotel in Devon. The wedding took place on a sunny Thursday in June with Jessica getting ready in the bridal suite, which had a gorgeous backdrop of the venue’s stunning gardens.

Jessica has absolutely beautiful eyes, which we decided to make the centre of attention. To do this I prepped her eyelids using Elizabeth Arden Eye-Fix as this enables whatever eyeshadow I put over it to really pop! Then I used a mix of MAC shadows incorporating a rose gold shade with pink hues and steel grey to add definition. Finally we used a few wispy lashes to add a bit of oomph to her eyes.

For her face I used my spray-on Airbrush foundation because it lasts all day, looks luminous and feels weightless. Luckily Jessica is already blessed with killer cheekbones and so didn’t really need much contouring so I simply used a highlighter in Moonstone by BECCA and applied a pink blush to her cheeks, blending the colour out towards her hairline.

Her hair was swept up into a classic style with a delicate decorative hair band completing her look. The wedding party also looked glamorous too, with the bridesmaids choosing dark smoky eyes to compliment their stylish red fitted dresses.

I really do love my job so much, especially when I get to share special days such as this one.

After the wedding Jessica sent me a beautiful card which read:

Dear Eve,

Just a little note to say thank you and WOW! My bridal party looked so beautiful and elegantly made up, your talent really is incredible.

Thank you also for being such a calming presence on the day. I felt like a princess all day long and was very sad when the make-up had to come off!

Very best wishes.

Jessica

I really love Upton Barn Weddings, it’s right round the corner from me and they’re always lovely. You can have an outdoor ceremony in the garden and then dine inside the barn making it a very laid back and relaxed reception in gorgeous settings.

Samantha was getting ready in one of their lodges with views over the beautiful lake. So we set the make-up chair up in front of the balcony to make the most of the wonderful outlook.

Samantha wore a gorgeous gown; one of my favourites dresses of the year because it was such a flattering shape with stunning detail. I also loved the blush pink skirts with sparkly tops the bridesmaids wore, their whole look was so delicate and pretty and so we followed this through with the makeup, using soft tones in natural shades.

The strong contact between Samantha’s porcelain skin and dark hair means that dramatic make-up suits her best. However we still wanted to keep it looking soft and bridal so we decided upon super sexy smoky eyes in shades of pink and deep plum with an elegant flick of eyeliner. Then I airbrushed her skin, did some subtle contouring and finished the look with a gorgeous red lip.

I’m sure you’ll agree that Samantha and her girls all looked incredible and I enjoyed every minute of making them up.

After the wedding Samantha wrote to me:

Hi Eve

Just wanted to drop you an email to thank you for styling myself and the bridal party on my wedding day. I’m so grateful for your relaxed and calming manor particularly with the girls as they had not had trials. I wanted everyone involved to feel comfortable and themselves and not tell them how to have things, I’m also rubbish at making decisions and you made that so easy for me and your skills were everything I’d hoped for. They were so pleased with their make up and each style really suited them as individuals, I could tell they all felt and knew they looked incredible. I too absolutely loved my makeup, it was exactly what I wanted and I felt amazing all day. We all had so many lovely comments and our makeup lasted all day despite the little rain we had. My gran in particular has been raving about you and her makeup since, as you know she was a little unsure about having it done but as you’ll see from the photos she looked amazing, her blue eyes really popped. She’s even thrown out her old blue eye shadow and bought a brown collection on your advice.

Eve thank you so much for making us all fell so calm and beautiful on the day. It was a pleasure to get to know you during the process, I’m just sad I don’t live closer so that I could come see you again for occasion make up, perhaps in the future some day.

Many thanks again.

Sam xx

With thank s to my bride Samantha and her photographer Ray McShane for the photos (www.raymcshanefilms.com)

Samantha had a gorgeous beach celebration held in one of my favourite places, Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe. She was married in October and had an outdoor ceremony but was very lucky to have a beautiful sunny day.

Her seaside theme was full of pretty pastel hues that were seen in the bridesmaids dresses, decor and also echoed in the make-up too. We had met for a trial earlier in the year and had enjoyed a lovely time experimenting with styles that tied in with this theme and had chosen a style that defined her eyes but kept the rest of the look natural with glowing skin and peach colours on her cheeks and lips.

Samantha’s family and bridesmaids all flew over from America for the wedding and so the ceremony was held on a Sunday to allow everyone to bond over several days and get over their jetlag. Then on the wedding day itself we had an early start as I was doing the make-up for Samantha, her 6 bridesmaids and both the bride and grooms mums. So to ensure we had enough time to get everyone ready for the ceremony I drew up a schedule that gave everyone a make-up time plus a little “buffer time” just incase of anything out of my control. However, everything went smoothly and I had a lovely morning with Samantha and her family and was so pleased to be a part of her special day.

After the wedding Samantha wrote to me:
Hi Eve, I just wanted to say thank you so much for doing all of our make-up on our wedding day. Everyone looked absolutely perfect! I’m so impressed you were able to calmly do make-up for nine people in only a few hours and stay perfectly on schedule. Everyone was so happy with how they looked on the day and we all got a ton of compliments! I’ve never seen my mom so confident in her appearance and my friend, Dani, is still talking about having you move to the states to do her make-up everyday haha!
I also want to thank you for all of your help throughout the process – I went into this not knowing much about make-up, or what I even wanted, and without all of your suggestions I know I wouldn’t have been nearly as happy with my appearance on my wedding day as I was.
Thank you so, so much for helping to make our day so perfect! Sam x

With thanks to my bride Samantha and her photographer Albert Palmer for the photos (Wedding Photographer Bristol)

Albert Palmer is a photographer from Bristol, he works mostly in the Bristol and Somerset area but is also happy to travel worldwide.

Christina’s elegant and pretty wedding took place at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel in May. This is such an impressive location, with breathtaking views across the Salcombe estuary so I set my make-up chair up by the window to take advantage of all the natural light flowing in and so that Christina could enjoy the view across the water while she had her make-up applied.

Christina wanted a natural timeless look for the day with slightly defined eyes but overall not too much makeup. She has an olive skin tone and nothing looks better on olive colouring than deep shades of warm colours like chocolate browns, earthy tones and gold’s. So we chose a soft smokey eye using browns and gold’s and lots of lashes to frame her eyes. Then on the cheeks and lips we used rose tones to add a subtle pop of colour.

I never leave until the bride is in her dress partly because I like to be on hand for final lipstick touchups and also because I love seeing the whole look come together. Christina wore a Ritva Westenius wedding dress and I loved the clean lines of this gown. The overall look was really classic and elegant.

After the wedding Christina wrote me this review:

“So pleased with the make up for my wedding. Eve is so professional and such a lovely person to have helping me to get ready. I couldn’t recommend her enough!”

With thanks to Christina and her photographer Georgina at Panache for the photos (www.panachephotos.co.uk)
